Light plays an essential role in theater, photography and film. Part of setting up the perfect lighting is controlling what is seen, what is not seen, and the creation or elimination of shadows. Duvetyne and Commando Cloth can play a major role in those efforts.
Duvetyne is a common production fabric often used for masking ourposes. It’s made of 100% cotton. Our 8 oz. duvetyne comes in several widths such as - 54 inch and 118 inch. It's excellent at hiding large objects and eliminating reflections. Duvetyne fabrics and curtains offer the following benefits:
This fabric is also relatively inexpensive. As a resilient and affordable material, duvetyne is excellent for solving common production issues, such as hiding set pieces and background items.
Commando Cloth is a specific type of duvetyne fabric. It’s thicker and heavier than standard duvetyne, giving it stronger blackout qualities. If you want less light showing through, 12 oz. commando cloth is 70% opaque and 16 oz is 99% opaque. It’s often found masking unwanted light or covering objects. It’s also used for inexpensive masking curtains and to put a hard edge on light or to create "dots and fingers." Because it’s economical, it’s often used by filmmakers to cover large objects, such as a tree or even a building, and to blackout windows.
Though commando cloth is by no means bulky, it is heavier than duvetyne. It’s also more durable, so it's a good choice if your equipment sees rough use. Along with black, it’s available in varying colors, widths and weights for a variety of uses. No gaffer truck in Hollywood is ever without a roll of duvetyne or commando cloth.
Rose Brand always stocks duvetyne and commando cloth in numerous weights, widths, and colors for quick delivery. We offer top quality materials and custom services to production companies across North America. Browse our online inventory or contact us today if you’d like to discuss your needs.
