Fabric Questions

What’s the difference between IFR, FR, and NFR fabrics?

When it comes to fire safety and fabric, it’s very important to know the terms associated with them. Many venues are required to meet specific fire safety codes. 

NFR is the first term to understand. That acronym stands for “non-flame-retardant,” meaning the fabric is woven from threads that do not meet fire-safety standards. However, once treated with a flame retarding chemical, the fabric becomes FR (or “flame retardant”) and would meet codes. 

IFR, on the other hand, stands for “inherently flame retardant,” meaning the fabric is woven with fibers that have flame-retardant properties without the need for a chemical additive. These fabrics will also pass fire safety codes.

Each of our fabrics will have been individually tested and certified when they meet specific fire regulations for particular states within the US and for other countries as well. You can easily narrow down your choice of fabrics by flame retardancy certification when browsing within a given category, such as velour, silk, duvetyyn, etc. Just use the flame retardancy filters alongside the left-hand margin of the category page to select the certification that you need.

 

What fabrics are best for masking, projection, or backdrops?

There are many types of fabric suitable for masking, projection, or backdrops. When it comes to masking and blackout, Rose Brand offers a helpful guide to assist with the choice. Often, for masking and blackout purposes, people are shopping for Commando Cloth and Duvetyn. For projection, the decision is between specialized fabrics and PVC. How do I compare opacity or fabric density for masking?

When it comes to opacity and fabric density used for masking, there are many different options available. The rule of thumb typically comes down to the fabric's weight. The heavier the fabric, the greater its opacity and the more light it blocks. So, if you want something with the best light blocking, you should purchase a heavier fabric. What information do I need to supply for a custom curtain?

Ordering a custom curtain from Rose Brand is a simple process. We produce thousands of custom curtains every year so we can easily guide you to a solution that best fits your needs. Tell us how you’re going to use the curtain, its dimensions, and color. We’ll recommend the perfect fabric, level of fullness, and finish. Even if you have just a general sense of what you need, you can also use our online custom sewing request tool to receive a quote. We’ll call you to validate your choices and then modify your specifications if appropriate.

Can I choose pleating, lining, hems, and other custom options?

Of course! With our custom sewing request tool, after you’ve chosen the type of curtain, specific fabric, and size, you’ll be asked to provide which pleating, lining, hems, and other custom options you desire for your curtain. You can also choose our standard specification as the default response to all of those questions. That can at least get the process started. We can amend the specifications as needed when we call to discuss your project. Do you offer installation services?

Yes! Call to inquire about installation services in your particular area. We offer best-in-class installation as part of our custom curtain services in specific parts of the country. Ordering

Do you offer volume discounts or pricing for preferred customers?

For larger orders, Rose Brand offers volume discounts on most of our fabrics and some supplies. Please see pricing for volume orders on each product’s page and contact us for more information as appropriate.

When will I hear back after requesting a quote?

We respond to custom quote requests within 24-48 hours. Once you have approved a quote, the turnaround time for your custom order can vary depending on the exact requirements and how busy we are at the time of your order. In general, we offer speedy turnaround since the vast majority of our fabrics are in stock. In fact, many of our competitors buy their fabric from us. Contact us with details of your needs so we can provide a more accurate timeline estimate.
